16 zombie actors injured on 'Resident Evil' set
TORONTO - Sixteen actors dressed as zombies were injured Tuesday when they fell from a platform during filming of a new movie in the "Resident Evil" series, officials said.
Toronto emergency medical spokesman Peter Macintyre said the victims' costumes made it difficult at first for crews to assess the severity of their injuries.
Paramedics responded to the call from Cinespace Film Studios around 8 a.m. to find what appeared - thanks to Hollywood special effects makeup - to be people who had suffered some untold catastrophe.
"I could see the look on the first paramedic, saying `Oh my God,'" Toronto emergency medical services Commander David Ralph said with a laugh.
Toronto Police Sgt. Andrew Gibson said responders quickly figured out which zombies were injured and which were just in character. "It did kind of catch us off guard when we walked in," he said.
As it turned out, the victims had suffered leg, back and arm injuries. Twelve were taken to a hospital. Officials said none of the injuries are considered life-threatening.
Police Constable Tony Vella said the actors had been filming a scene on a high wheeled platform. The platform moved as they were going to another platform, leaving a gap into which the zombies fell.
Cinespace Film Studios did not immediately respond to a request for comment.
"Resident Evil: Retribution" is the fifth installment of a franchise based on the popular video game series and will be distributed by Screen Gems and Sony Pictures.
Lead actress Milla Jovovich was not on set at the time of the accident, according to her representative Christine Tripicchio.
Vella said the incident is classified as an industrial accident. Canada's Ministry of Labor is investigating.

ABOUT HEKLA
Hekla is a stratovolcano located in the south of Iceland with a height of 1,491 metres (4,892 ft). Hekla is one of Iceland’s most active volcanoes; over 20 eruptions have occurred in and around the volcano since 874. During the Middle Ages, Icelanders called the volcano the “Gateway to Hell.”
According to the Institute of Earth Sciences, Iceland’s most famous volcano is built up on a WSW-ENE trending fissure by repeated fissure eruptions, forming a vaulted ridge about 5 km long and split lengthwise in major eruptions.
“Hekla has had a number of large postglacial eruptions, producing vast amounts of tephra which repeatedly covered up to two thirds of the country with light-coloured tephra (i.e. 7000 B.P., 4500 B.P., 2900 B.P., A.D. 1104 and A.D. 1158). During historical time the first eruption (A.D. 1104) was a tremendous explosive eruption which destroyed the Þjórsárdalur valley. This eruption produced about 2.5 km3 of rhyodacitic tephra, which was carried towards NNW. The following eruptions in Hekla, producing both lava and tephra, occurred in 1158, 1206, 1222, 1300, 1341, 1389, 1510, 1597, 1636, 1693, 1766, 1845, 1947, 1970, 1980, 1991 and 2000. Some of these eruptions caused great damage, especially the eruptions in 1510, 1693 and 1766.”

Iceland's Hekla volcano shows signs of activity
University of Iceland geophysicist Pall Einarsson said Wednesday that magma appears to be moving deep beneath the volcano. He says that does not necessarily mean an eruption is imminent. But scientists expect Hekla, one of Iceland's most active volcanoes, to erupt soon.
In the past few decades, Hekla has erupted about every 10 years, most recently in February 2000.
Iceland, in the remote North Atlantic, is a volcanic hotspot. In April 2010 ash from an eruption of its Eyjafjallajokul volcano grounded flights across Europe for days, disrupting travel for 10 million people.
In May, the Grimsvotn volcano erupted, causing minor disruption to air travel.
Hekla, is known as the "gateway to hell". It nearly wiped out the population of Iceland at one point in it's history. Hekla is also where my first book, "Dragon, Book of Shang", ends. It is also a factor in the follow up book, "Dragon, Book of Iyce".
I will be following this developing story and will post updates.

Japan: Flooding At High Tide
As we watch the flooding in our own USA along the Mississippi River etc, we know that at some point the water will recede and places will start the drying out process. However, in some of the coastal areas of Japan that were effected by the quake and tsunamis, they have another problem that could possibly keep them from drying out forever. As You read this story, you will see that Japan has been moved, physically, and is now prown to flooding from high tides. This is a serious problem going forward.
